Tornadoes, earthquakes, and flooding have all been in the news recently. You never know when a major catastrophe may occur. It is a good idea to have an emergency kit prepared in advance. Some items to include in your emergency kit are: first aid kit and manual, flashlights, extra batteries, water in non-breakable containers, canned or other non-perishable food, non-electric can opener, portable radio, extra clothing and blankets.

If you’ve purchased or leased a new or used vehicle, your auto insurance policy needs updated. We have had clients notify us that a vehicle that they had purchased months earlier was not on their policy. They thought that the car salesman was going to call us. Do not rely on the car salesman to notify us of your purchase. Always call us yourself to make sure your newly acquired vehicle is insured.

If you are driving to Canada for a visit or vacation, you are required to have a non-resident inter-province motor vehicle liability insurance card. This card certifies that your insurance company has agreed to provide liability coverage of not less than the minimum legal requirement while you are driving in any province of Canada. We want to make you aware that your homeowner’s policy does not protect you for damage caused by an earthquake. It is an optional coverage that can be added to a homeowner’s policy. You may not think of Pennsylvania as being an area for earthquakes, but there have been earthquakes in the past.

Car rental is a coverage which can be added to an auto policy if you have to rent a car due to a comprehensive (theft, vandalism, deer) or collision claim. Auto body repairs at times can take as long as three to four weeks. Please determine if you would need to rent a car while your car is being repaired. The cost of renting a car keeps increasing. We are now recommending a minimum of $40/day coverage.
